The 1936 Games were held in the twin Bavarian towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen. Bus service allowed 500,000 people to attend the final day's events.

Participation medals were made with the same design using three different finishes: gilt bronze, silvered bronze and bronze. Gilt and silvered medals were given to dignitaries and officials and bronze medals given to athletes.
