Choir director J. Arthur Lewis not only directed the 1,200-voice official Olympic chorus for the Los Angeles 1932 Games, but was also a WWII director of troop movements in the South Pacific.

Athlete and officials were given large bronze medals. Smaller gilt bronze and bronze medals with year added below athlete on front were created to give to organizations that assisted in the Games such as the chorus and band. Legend on back was specific to organization.
