Gordy Crawford not only donated Olympic prize medals and torches; but also, his collection of commemorative or participation medals to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Archives August 2018. A participation medal is the medal each Olympic athlete receives to commemorate his accomplishment of making the Olympic team for his country and participating in the Olympic Games. These medals are given by the Olympic Committee for Organizing the Games of each Olympic city. This practice began with the first Modern Olympic Games in 1896 and continues today.
