Fun fact(s):
The phoenix on the front of the medal symbolizes the rebirth of the Olympic Games after a hiatus of more than 1,500 years.

Participation medals were made using the same design in three different finishes: gilt bronze, silvered bronze and bronze. Gilt bronze and silvered bronze were presented to dignitaries while the the bronze medal was presented to athletes and available to the public for purchase as a commemorative of the Games.
