Only three gold medals were struck. These were given to the king and crown prince of Sweden and the president of the Olympic organizing committee.

Participation medals on the front used four different finishes: gold, silver, bronze, pewter and oxidized pewter. The pewter and oxidized pewter medals were presented to athletes with silver and bronze medals given to dignitaries and officials.
