At the Opening Ceremony for Amsterdam 1928, the team from Greece led the Parade of Nations, with the host Dutch team marching in last. Greece-first, hosts-last has been Olympic protocol ever since.

Participation medals were made with the same design using three different finishes: gilt bronze, silver and bronze. Gilt and silver medals were given to dignitaries and officials, and bronze medals given to athletes.
