Bronzed, poly-aluminum torch with leather-wrapped wood shaft; blends modern technology with Ancient Greece. Upper part shaped like a bowl with a silver ring that connects bowl with the shaft. The Lake Placid 1980 Olympic emblem and inscription in blue text on silver ring with "XIII Olympic Winter Games 1980." Copper ring with "Cleanweld/Turner Sycamore, Illinois" at base of shaft. 28 inches high.

The Lake Placid torch relay route was designed to retrace the American Revolution Bicentennial trail. It started not far from where the first English settlers landed in the New World then wound through historical sites such as Washington D.C., New York and Philadelphia.
