The shape of the Torino Olympic torch is similiar to a ski tip as well as represents the the monument symbol of Turin: the Mole Antonelliana.

The route of the torch relay stopped in Cortina d'Ampezzo exactly 50 years to the day after the opening of the Olympic Winter Games held there in 1956.
