Olympic Winter Games Sapporo 1972 Official Torch

Blackened aluminium torch holder in the shape of the Olympic cauldron with stainless-steel covered cylindrical combustion tube. "Olympic Torch" in black near top with red stripe around circumference about half way down the tube. At base, Sapporo Olympic Winter Games emblem in black with "Sapporo 1972" and "Nippon Ko. LTD" below. Nikkei Yanaji" engraved on base. 22 inches high.

Designer: Munemichi Yanagi and Nikkei Yanagi.
Manufacturer: Nippon Koki Company, Ltd.

Fuel: Priming and smoke-producing powder of red phosphorus, manganese dioxide, magnesium and wood meal. Combustion duration 10 minutes for the torches carried by runners and 14 minutes for those carried by automobile.
Fun fact(s):
Munemichi 'Sori' Yanagi also designed the torch for the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964.

Only children and young adults between the ages of 11 an 20 were torchbearers in the Sapporo relay.
