Jim Thorpe, winner of the men's pentathlon and decathlon, was proclaimed by the King of Sweden as the world's greatest athlete.

This was the first Olympic use of automatic timing devices for the track events, the photo finish and a public address system.

The Stockholm 1912 medals used the same design as the London 1908 Games on the front of the medal.

Gold medal shown is solid gold.

Designer Erik Jordan Lindberg was a Swedish sculptor most notably remembered for his design of the Nobel Peace Prize.
