Spanish sculptor Xavier Corberó designed the Barcelona prize medals. Corberó started with Cassioli's original medal front, but gave Nike the goddess of victory a modernist look and placed the medal on another, slightly off-center. Corberó used the Barcelona logo of a jumping athlete over Olympic rings on the reverse of the medals.
For the first time since 1972, all the major nations of the world attended. The Barcelona Olympic Games became the Games of the New World Order. After four consecutive Games with some form of protest or boycott, the Barcelona Games were boycott-free.
